PARENT-TO-STAFF SHOUT: "Ms. Heminger at Meadowvale took time this morning to make my son feel better about going to the YMCA before-school care. He was full meltdown and she stopped what she was doing in her busy morning and came over and talked with Graham and helped me calm him down. I can’t express how much my 6am brain needed that little extra nudge. It takes a village and I’m so glad she’s in ours!" Way to go Ms.H!

"Ken Kania (Custodian) was an amazing help during STEAM camp this summer! He went above and beyond in helping us organize which rooms to use, due to soaring temperatures when we had to keep students inside. He also checked on our staff frequently in between his daily duties to make sure we had what we needed. Also at the beginning of this school year, he and Nick Kotlarczyk were the absolute best in taking care of the many requests for classrooms, the building, and making sure we were ready for Open House." What a dynamic duo! Thank you for ALL of your work! (Ken in yellow, Nick in gray)

TOLEDO – Boys & Girls Clubs of Toledo will expand into Washington Local Schools in fall 2024 with the opening of a location at Hiawatha Elementary School. The new Club will be the organization’s first in Washington Local. “Boys & Girls Clubs of Toledo is dedicated to serving our local youth and offering quality after-school and summer programming and opportunities for our students to learn and grow,” said James Ravas, president and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Toledo. “We are grateful for the opportunity to establish a strong partnership with Washington Local Schools and to expand our outreach to serve kids and save lives in Toledo.” Outgoing Washington Local Superintendent Kadee Anstadt, Ed.D., joined the Boys & Girls Clubs of Toledo board of trustees in 2023. The Clubs also worked with Hiawatha principal Bert Bernhardt on the logistics of opening the new site. “We are elated that our students will have a safe place to experience fun, after-school programming, receive healthy snacks and dinner, as well as academic support. This is such an incredible gift to our community and we look forward to growing this partnership,” Anstadt said. The Hiawatha Club is expected to open in September and will serve members from age 7 through sixth grade.
