Fifth grade students from Greenwood, Jackman, McGregor, Meadowvale, and Wernert will be graduating. D.A.R.E. stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Training.

Congratulations to Whitmer senior Annelisa Monica who made school history when she scored a Hole in One at Riverby on September 19. She was recognized with a flag at Whitmer's Fall Athletic Awards Banquet on November 5. Annelisa is a true scholar-athlete. She has a 4.06 G.P.A. and received All-Academic Honors. Cynthia Palmer is the Whitmer Girls Golf Coach.

Congratulations to the Whitmer Girls Cross Country Team who had seven regional qualifiers and one state qualifier -- Whitmer sophomore Abbie Dorn. Whitmer was the District Runner-Up and won three invitationals this year -- Otsego Invitational (Aug. 31), Tiffin Carnival (Sept. 7) and Nike Holly Invitational (September 14). |News Release: 2013-10-30: McGregor Elementary Named 2013 Ohio School of Promise|
Congratulations are extended to the students, staff, and parents at McGregor Elementary. McGregor is one of only two Lucas County schools to be named a 2013 School of Promise. Only 141 schools out of approximately 4,000 schools statewide received the honor in 2013. The Schools of Promise Award program recognizes schools attaining solid student achievement in reading and mathematics while serving a significant number of economically disadvantaged students.

The Language Arts Departments at Washington Local's two junior highs are collaborating on a joint service project to collect "Poke Cart" items for children with cancer, with Jefferson's collection in October and Washington's in March. Each charity drive concludes with a dance. Jefferson will hold its dance on October 30 (2-3 p.m.).

Dallas King, a Whitmer senior with cerebral palsy, documented his recent skydiving adventures in a PowerPoint he shared with other students, ultimately catching the attention of Mayor Michael Bell, who has invited Dallas and his classroom aide, Melissa Begin, to his office on October 29.
|News Release: 2013-10-24: Whitmer Football Players Collect Items for the Homeless|
Whitmer football players, under the leadership of seniors Marcus Elliott and Jacob LaPoint are collecting items for the homeless, in partnership with the Toledo Area Alliance to End Homelessness (TAAEH). TAAEH reached out to Marcus after hearing about his volunteer work and recent collection of 100 pillows for the Cherry Street Mission, and the Panthers stepped forward to adopt the project as a team. The items will be distributed to area homeless on January 29 by TAAEH and the United Way. The Whitmer collection runs through the end of November.
